In today's world of dating apps, it's easy to fall into the routine of swipes and clicks.Although that may be the destiny for some, the universe had much more than that in store for Bryan & Devario. In fact, using one of Bryan's closest friends, Roderick, the universe insisted Bryan drop the apps and start picking up on the hints the universe was dropping all around him.
Emerging from his discussion with Roderick was a Bryan who was more open to possibilities, and from that, love was set in motion. After a night out with his friend Stephen at the famous Amy Ruth's in New York City, Bryan, an actor/writer/producer, agreed to a gently suggested Instagram connection with Devario, a costume designer/educator/podcast host. As with any blind date, there may have been natural uncertainty; however, as planned, the universe took the reins.
The first date was scheduled for the next night, with drinks and dinner in the Hell's Kitchen area of New York City. Known for its amazing restaurants, nightlife, and party atmosphere, Hell's Kitchen can be a distracting and chaotic environment. For Bryan & Devario, their complete focus was on each other as they began the process of getting to know one another. After a wonderful evening of food, drinks, conversation, and laughter they started dating. They have been inseparable ever since. Bryan attributes his connection with Devario to faith and trust that what you are searching for is also searching for you.Love has a way of finding you when you least expect it.When it finds you, it will fulfill your wildest dreams.
After a year of unimaginable love and romance, Bryan knew it was time to take a bold next step. Deciding how and when to propose to the love of your life takes serious planning and preparation, not to mention secrecy. Since everyone has a unique proposal story, let's let Bryan tell his:
"It was a dream come true! Picture it,a private yacht, a few of our closest friends (I mean, we are still in a COVID pandemic), and fireworks! The setting was perfect. I thought Devario knew it was going to happen because as we landed in Mexico, he leaned over to me and said, "If we ever get married, what would our last names be?" When we approached the yacht, he turned back to one of his friends and said, "somebody should get married tonight!" At that point, I was still excited about proposing but a little disappointed that the surprise factor had gone out of the window. I walked over to the edge of the boat, spent some alone time with God, and then got ready for the New Years' countdown. After we all yelled Happy New Year, I slowly took the champagne glass from Devario's hand and gave it to a friend. I whispered in his ear, ‘This might not be exactly how you thought it was going to go, but it's happening, and it's happening now.’ He looked at me like he had no idea what I was talking about because he didn't! When I got down on one knee, he looked like he had seen a ghost. He was in utter shock. He really didn't know! It was the stuff dreams are made of. I wish this kind of happiness for everyone in the world."
Bryan's account of his proposal to Devario is truly one of the best we have had an opportunity to share with the BGW Community.
