This beautiful and "Bro-Mantic" love story began with a simple tweet between two unsuspecting co-workers. Derrick and Marquis both work for Corporate Bridgestone, but when Marquis sent Derrick an inbox message via Twitter, this somewhat informal social media communication sparked the flames of what would become a heated love affair. After two months of seemingly uninterrupted conversations and verbal bonding, Derrick, from Nashville, TN, and Marquis, from Houston,Texas, knew it was time to meet. So, they planned a getaway to Houston, and the rest is, of course, history.
On their first date, like every other first date, they were a bundle of nerves, but sparks were flying all over the place. They chose Kemah Boardwalk amusement park, about 20 miles outside of Houston, for their first full day together, which was filled with laughter and fun. Their last two months of communication proved fruitful because it was like they already knew each other. Meeting in person only made their bond more sensual as they drew closer and closer together.
One can say that it was a twist of corporate fate that brought Marquis and Derrick together through a sweet loving tweet. The way they laughed and smiled at one another, Derrick recalled, "it was so surreal, it felt like a dream come true." Imagine meeting someone for the first time, and they tick every box, cross every "T" and dot every "I." Yes! That's what it was like for these two. Marquis knew that Derrick was everything he could have hoped for, and in his heart, he knew Derrick felt the same.
Over the weeks that followed, Marquis and Derrick became inseparable. They first attempted to keep their love restricted to a "Friendship," but after several months of visits back and forth, Marquis wanted more and asked Derrick to be his boyfriend.
From being the sweetest of lovers who enjoyed each other's company to Marquis braving the odds and asking Derrick to marry him two years after they first met. Marquis remembers, "he had a huge smile on his face, as I asked him to marry me, when he said yes, it was like time froze, and no one else in the world existed."
Unions like these are the stuff lasting relationships are made of. The engagement story of Derrick and Marquis is proof that love can be found whenever and wherever you look for it, even in a simple tweet.
Congratulations from Black Gay Weddings Marquis & Derrick, and we look forward to sharing your wedding day.
