A “Fabulous!!!” celebration of love at the famed Waldorf in Atlanta.
To create the perfect wedding experience requires the perfect recipe with the following ingredients. Add 1 cup of fabulousness, 2 cups of style and sophistication, 2 gorgeous gentlemen, 1 ideal location, and a dash of envy (just a dash…where was BGW’s invitation?). Even amid a pandemic, Tahir and Amon managed to pull off one of the most memorable weddings of a lifetime.
Love always seems to manifest itself in mysterious ways, so keep reading to find out just how Tahir and Amon became the first Mister & Mister couple to marry at the Atlanta Waldorf hotel, at undoubtedly what was the most anticipated and talked bout event on the Atlanta social calendar this year.
At this point, one might ask, how did these two strikingly handsome men meet? So here’s the backstory. Tahir was hosting a speed dating event in Atlanta, GA, for the Better Way To Meet project, which Amon attended for the sole purpose of meeting Tahir. The two hit it off immediately and went on their first date the very next day to a nearby Chipotle. Amon, intrigued by this dashing fellow, invited Tahir along for a weekend getaway to Las Vegas. While there, Tahir and Amon enjoyed everything “Sin City” had to offer. They went sightseeing, took in a helicopter tour of the Hoover Dam, and finished the night out at Ross. Rabbit. Lie, one of Amon’s favorite hangouts in Las Vegas. They couldn’t help but enjoy each other’s company, extending their adoration for one another well beyond Vegas. Which sometimes means what happens in Vegas doesn’t always stay in Vegas, but could end up turning into an ultra-fabulous wedding in Atlanta.
It didn’t take long before the Tahir, the Master Barber from Philadelphia, and Amon, a dentist and native of Atlanta realized that they were perfect for one another. In September of 2019, Amon proposed to Tahir using the beautiful Waldorf Astoria in Atlanta’s Buckhead area as his romantic and “hard-to-say-no” backdrop. Eyes wide and grinning from ear to ear, Tahir, of course, said YES!, and the couple set their big day for October 10th, 2020. They chose to get married at the Waldorf Astoria, in the same place Tahir said YES!, and a fitting place to begin their marital journey.
Tahir & Amon
The couple threw a Harlem Nights theme enGAYgement party at The Vault, an art gallery and event space in Atlanta, in February of 2020. Friends and family attended from all over the United States to wish them well as they officially took the first steps on the way to matrimony. Soon after their enGAYgement party, the COVID-19 pandemic wreaked havoc across the world, and Tahir and Amon decided to quarantine together. The more time they spent together, the more they understood each other. Through this understanding of one another, they overcame many hurdles that make or break new couples. As their love blossomed, they were able to plan their dream wedding.
And then the big day arrived. As Tahir and Amon were getting ready for their big day, they couldn’t contain their happiness. Positively beaming with love, the couple donned their carefully selected and curated wardrobe. Before the ceremony began, Tahir and Amon met with their wedding party for pre-ceremony photographs. Arms locked together, the entire wedding party seemed only to uplift the happy couple’s feeling of joy. Elated by the love and support of their family and friends, they headed towards the ceremony space.
The couple made their way down the aisle, flanked by friends and family, all there to share in the event commemorating the love Tahir and Amon share with each other. Clad in ivory and black double-breasted tuxedos, the couple’s style was complimented perfectly by the ceremony space set up with ivory, orange, and plum flowers atop gold pedestals and surrounded by candles. As each of the grooms approached the ceremony space, they were greeted by their wedding party, dressed in black tuxedos except for the two Best Ladies and their mothers, who wore cream and plum. As the ceremony concluded and the recessional began, the entire room erupted in applause and a standing ovation as they saw the newlyweds off to the upcoming reception.
The event space for the reception was transformed into a picture of updated elegance and taste through purple uplighting, flowers in orange, plum, and ivory, and an ivory and gold dance floor that was monogrammed with the happy couple’s names. As the couple entered the reception hall, they were greeted by cheers and applause. The couple had changed into purple and burnt orange velvet jackets and wore matching embroidered velvet masks to reflect the color palette. They had the whole space swaying and ready to party as they began their first dance and broke into a choreographed number. As the night went on, it became more and more apparent that everyone there was genuinely happy for the couple as they danced and played the night away.
As it came time to cut into the cake, the couple walked over to a beautiful 3-tier, ivory and gold wedding cake with amethyst clusters designed into one side of it and glittering gold crystals tiered in between. The couple cut into the cake and fed each other their first sweet bites as a married couple. The night continued with more dancing before Tahir and Amon made their exit from the reception and into their lives as husband and husband.
Tahir and Amon, thank you for sharing your story with Black Gay Weddings, and we wish you both everlasting love and joy.
