“In New York… concrete jungle where dreams are made of…”
Truly, dreams are made there. For two artists going for their dreams, a love story blooms and develops in the background of opportunities that changed their lives and spanned the globe. So pay close attention to this one.
This story of love starts with one of the most famous celebrities on the planet. She’s a music artist, actress, wife, mother, and a household name that any and everyone knows. Beyoncé. If you are a fan of hers, then you know about her tour called the Beyoncé Experience. But while most people know about her and go to see her on stage, they sometimes, like with any celebrity, don’t always think about the other people who make the whole experience work.
The year was 2007, and Yani Marin had just booked a huge opportunity to be one of the backup dancers for Beyoncé on a world tour that consisted of nearly a hundred shows. That was huge. She knew that she had to be on the top of her game when it came to the fast-paced life of living on the road. When it came to being on tour, one didn’t have time for the norms of daily living like going on dates and falling in love. She was ready for it, but the one thing that she was not ready for was Divinity.
Divinity Roxx had also been given the opportunity of a lifetime. Not only being a musician on tour but being the music director of the all-female band that would be playing on the Beyoncé Experience. Their two worlds were only meant to collide at certain times, but that was all that was needed. It was Divinity that would spot Yani coming in for rehearsals and thinking that she was adorably cute. Her observations were just observations as the long hours left no time to really approach Yani and get to know her. So, life on the tour went on.
As tour life finally became somewhat of a norm, it somehow surfaced that the two of them really liked each other, and soon the dancer and the musician finally started to connect. They would find ways to sit next to each other, share meals, and develop a friendship with the undertones of something more. After the tour, their relationship grew even throughout a very long-distance effort. Both of them were doing separate jobs in very different areas. Yani went on to dance in New York while Divinity stayed on working as a musician for Beyoncé. For both women, that didn’t deter what had already started to blossom. Their love for each other bloomed and truly was manifested on their wedding day.
Yani & Divinity
It was a gorgeous sunny day that didn’t have a cloud even attempt to appear at this glorious occasion. As Yani stood nervous and excited in her ballroom gown with plunging V-neck, Divinity smiled, adorned in a chic all-white jumpsuit that lit up along with her vibrant personality. Everything in both of their facial expressions screamed ‘I LOVE YOU’ as they walked down the aisle outside of the Liberty House in Jersey City, New Jersey. The ceremony was luxuriously elegant and sufficiently reflected the classiness, sophistication, and style of these two gorgeous ladies. Yani couldn’t help but grin as she stared into Divinity’s playful eyes. While the music played, Divinity realized that she was about to marry that cute dancer that she spied on every rehearsal. They joined hands as a prayer was lifted over them, and while their family and friends watched on. It was the perfect day for two to become one. When the officiant pronounced them married, Yani and Divinity began the celebration of a lifetime.
At their reception, the two danced on a beautiful white ballroom floor with the words ‘Shall We Dance” inscribed on it, as joy and laughter filled the room. Of course, the night couldn’t be complete without Divinity rocking out on the guitar and singing to her soulmate. You can see the love reflected in Yani’s eyes as she danced to Divinity’s music. The two of them will be dancing and making music together for years to come.
Black Gay Weddings is so excited to share their story, and more importantly, give them the spotlight because their love deserves that and so much more.
